Model 149Y194 this waffle iron was patented in 1939. The design was patented in 1938. It was manufactured until late 40s but not during WWII. It was popular and sold into the 1950's. Designed by August A. Proernick for GE. He was the designer of many GE appliances. This is the "Westport" version of the design which is nicely etched on top. The mechanics, wiring and heat system are all great and the black "Bakelite" handles show it off.
Completely restored and re-wired It works very well but does not have a thermostat so you have to keep cooking or unplug it. It does self regulate as long as you keep cooking. Very nice wide drip catcher. There is a little indicator telling you when its ready to bake but it is hard to see and read. Indicator at "A" bar is 375 degrees. If left on it hits 525 degrees F at top and sort of stays there so it cooks very nicely and will not burn your waffles. Takes about 7 minutes to warm to cooking temp.
It took more hours than what the price reflects to bring this back, but it was fun. Comes with newer style 3 foot cord set, complete instructions and recipes.
Makes 7" round waffles with triangular grid 5/16 inch thick. 115 VAC, 550 watts. Heaters are spring wound. Feet are composite material and the handles are black Bakelite. Made in Bridgeport, Connecticut by General Electric. 12 inches handle to handle, 10 inch front to back and 4 1/4 inches high.

Is it safe?
It will be as safe or safer than the original manufacturer when it was made. Many times it is safer since I remove and replace asbestos wiring and unsafe cords. Note: There are some items I no longer refurbish because they cannot be made safe. I check every item for stray voltage and many times it is too high so that unit is scrapped.
What does Restored and Rebuilt Mean?
It means its been re-wired with modern high heat resistant wire, thermostats re-set, gunk, grease, stains have been removed. Restored to original factory specifications. Cords and wiring safe. All components checked for safety. Everything back to very good to mint condition nothing less.
