Vintage Westinghouse "Low Boy" Waffle Iron, Restored Deco Kitchenware

Completely refurbished, re-wired and restored to like new condition. Beautiful condition. This is a very special iron that was way ahead of its time. It was not easy to refurbish; a very sophisticated piece.
1939 and Westinghouse was way ahead of the times with this really lovely "Low Boy" style waffle iron which they made in their brand new plant in Mansfield, Ohio. Special heaters developed for this iron allows it to be low and sleek. Just as appropriate today as back then. Extremely well engineered and innovative by Joseph Harms, a Westinghouse designer. They did not skimp on the internals either, very well made, easy to use. The plates are hardened aluminum that heat nicely (and quickly) and hold heat perfect. Brown accent handles from phenolic plastic ("Bakelite") protect you from burns and the extra long top handle is very nice, keeping your fingers away from the heat. It has a window to view heat but it does not work very well. NOTE: The hinge for this is strange and the only thing not well designed. The pins are loose and generally stay in place but can move. They are easily put back but it can be disconcerting. I will tell you how to care for it. I think it was done to make cleaning the hinge easier.
Makes a 7 inch waffle, 1/4 inch top/bottom. Heats to 400 degrees F in 4 1/2 minutes from 65 degrees start. No thermostat so you must keep cooking. 600 watts, 11 1/2 inch by 10 inch overall. 3 inches high. 7 inch waffle. Hardened Aluminum non-coated plates, chromed steel, Bakelite handles. All directions and instructions including some recipes are included. I am including a switch on the cord so you can regulate the heat easier.
