Completely restored. This extremely stylish toaster has been completely refurbished, cleaned, new wiring, connections and clockworks fixed. It will work well and look great for many years. Its fun to hear the "tick, tick, tick" of the clockworks and watch the push handle rise; then all of a sudden "pop" and the toast is done! You control the light to dark and it is a nice wide range on the dial. Please note: It is not for bagels. I guess they didn't toast them back then; the slots are skinny so its bread only or anything that will fit. Waffles would work.
Also note: This one will only adjust to "light" with a brown shade, no tan. Its adjusted as far as it can go, the clock works is just a little slower than normal. Still excellent toast. It works like a charm and has light -dark selector knob. Very heavy duty chromed metal. You remove the bottom with easy thumbscrews to undo the tray and clean out the crumbs. This toaster can be used daily.
McGraw Electric, Elgin Illinois. Marked 10 amps which would be 1150 watts on a 115 volt circuit. New polarized 6 foot cord.
Charles Strite got tired of burnt toast and invented the clockworks style automated toast control in the 1920s. Mr. Waters and Mr. Genter obtained the patent and this toaster is one of the results. McGraw Electric used the "Toastmaster" logo on this unit but this is the same company and this is one of the first automatic toasters made for home use. They had a single slice version and this double version. This one is the third iteration of the double toaster and they have some great etched design on all four sides.
Here is what the Smihtsonian says about this toaster: "Electric top-loading two-slice toaster. Chrome-plated steel body, rectangular, streamlined shape, with Art Deco style circle and line motif debossed into sides. Flat, molded, brownish-black bakelite handles on either side, each embossed: “TOASTMASTER/REG.U.S. PAT. OFF.”, one handle pulls down to load toast. Below handle is temperature gauge, molded black or brown bakelite knob with pointer, body is debossed “LIGHTER/DARKER”. Power cord attaches on opposite side, reddish brown woven cloth with gold specks, (replaced by modern black rubberized plastic polarized cord) molded black bakelite plug, two-pronged, embossed: “BELDEN/UL/1,858,196 PAT. NO’S 1,858,197”. Black or brown bakelite base, curved corners. Metal underside has applied sticker with instructions on cleaning, “Good Housekeeping Institute” approval mark. Attached metal plate is embossed/printed: “MANUFACTURED BY McGRAW ELECTRIC COMPANY/TOASTMASTER PRODUCTS DIV. ELGIN, ILL. U.S.A./U.S. PAT. 1,698,146 1,394,450 1,387,670 2,001,362/1,866,808 2,036,178 RE. 18,923 OTHERS PENDING/110V-10A-NO.A-118056 MOD.-1B8”."

It will be as safe or safer than the original manufacturer when it was made. Many times it is safer since I remove and replace asbestos wiring and unsafe cords. Note: There are some items I no longer refurbish because they cannot be made safe. I check every item for stray voltage and many times it is too high so that unit is scrapped.
It means its been re-wired with modern high heat resistant wire, thermostats re-set, gunk, grease, stains have been removed. Restored to original factory specifications. Cords and wiring safe. All components checked for safety. Everything back to very good to mint condition nothing less.
