Rebuilt/Refurbished Manning Bowman Rare Oval Waffle Iron #423

Sorry, this item has sold.

Rare find, late 40s oval waffle maker from Manning Bowman Model 423, serial # 8-5. The model series was early 40's to early 50's. This one was made in 1952 after McGraw Electric bought Manning Bowman so it was made in Fostoria, Ohio instead of Meridian, Conn where they were originally made. It has a pretty scroll design and is very heavy duty (built like a tank). Equipped with a thermostat with a "OFF" to "Dark" range it is sensitive and holds heat perfectly. It heats nice and even. The plates are easily removed with thumbscrews on the side for easy cleaning. It is extremely well made and very heavy duty. It will last a lifetime if taken care of properly. I have re-wired it, cleaned it up, repaired the hinge, removed all asbestos and replaced screws with SS. Plates cleaned to like new condition so you can do the seasoning and do it properly (I will tell you how). The plates are 1/4" deep, and make a good old fashioned waffle although a much different shape.
6 foot cord, all tested and in excellent shape. Complete care and use instructions. 950 watts, 110 VAC
Waffles are 11 x 6 1/2" total or two at 5 1/4" x 6 1/2". The iron is 15 1/2 inches handle to handle, 4 inches tall, 8 1/4 inches front to back. Glow button on top so you can tell it is on.

What are materials

Waffle grids are cast aluminum.

How will I keep it working and will it work?

Everything I sell is refurbished and in like new working order.
If something goes wrong, I will fix it so its like a lifetime (mine LOL) warranty.

Is it safe?

It will be as safe or safer than the original manufacturer when it was made. Many times it is safer since I remove and replace asbestos wiring and unsafe cords. Note: There are some items I no longer refurbish because they cannot be made safe. I check every item for stray voltage and many times it is too high so that unit is scrapped.

What does Restored and Rebuilt Mean?

It means its been re-wired with modern high heat resistant wire, thermostats re-set, gunk, grease, stains have been removed. Restored to original factory specifications. Cords and wiring safe. All components checked for safety. Everything back to very good to mint condition nothing less.

The waffle iron arrived in perfect condition with multiple pages of detailed seasoning instructions and recipes. After my nonstick waffle iron starting smoking and letting a noxious smell from the nonstick surface I decided to go ahead and give an old cast aluminum one a try. Let me tell you I will never go back to nonstick! No matter how much butter and sugar were in my waffles they were never as crispy as I wanted. The waffles off this antique one are the waffles of my dreams! Crispy, fluffy, perfect. Cooking on it was so easy! I followed the very quick seasoning instructions for the plates, applied a bit of oil for my first batch, and they came out perfect. I was worried the temp control but it was accurate and easy to use! Very happy with this purchase.
